Simplifying the Difference between Wet, Damp, and Dry Location Lamping
Damp is basically the same thing as wet, right? Not quite. Especially when it comes to lighting, understanding the subtle difference between different project needs is crucial to ensuring the long life of your light fixtures. UltraLights Lighting offers several lamping options to accommodate various lighting types, dimming types, and installation locations.
So, what is considered a “wet” location and what’s considered a “damp” location? I’m so glad you asked.
A wet location for lighting is any place that does not receive protection from the elements. That means all outdoor locations are considered wet locations. Even an outdoor area in the desert would still be considered a wet location thanks to the occasional thunder storm. Similarly, certain indoor environments may still be considered “wet” locations if there is a likelihood that water will come into contact with the light fixture, such as a shower, sauna, or indoor pool.
A damp location on the other hand is any area that is partially protected from the elements, but may still be exposed to humidity, condensation, or moisture. Some examples of a damp location are covered porches, patios, or ramadas. Indoor locations may also be considered damp in some environments, including bathrooms or unfinished basements.
